Almost a FO...

That's right... the Father's Fish Blanket is almost done!!!! I laid it out today (after deflating my bed so I had enough space).

If there are any major objections to the layout, speak now or forever hold your peace. I start sewing these guppies together either tonight or tomorrow. My mother offered to help with the sewing, so that should make life a bit easier. I had so much fun knitting this project, now let's see how finishing it goes.

All pinned together with their row number so I know which order they go in after I've sewn them together without trying to use the first photo as a reference. The colours are pretty accurate, but still, trying to figure out where everything goes using a photo would be a pain in the butt.

I think I'm going to crochet the rows together using black worsted weight... so keep in mind that there will be a black line between the horizontal rows. Mouth to mouth and tail to tail I'm going to sew together using the tail from the cast on/off.

Anyone want to come to central jersey to help with the putting it all together tomorrow? I'll buy pizza and ice cream :)

Project details:
Pattern: Festive Fish by Paula Levy
Yarn: varied worsted weights held double and bulky weights (mostly Lamb's Pride, Cascade and WotA with a few skeins of Galway in there)
Needles: size 10 (next time, I go up a needle size or two. These are some dense fish)
Finished size: 15 x 5 fish or 75 x 52 inches (unblocked)

@Woo!!

The fish are all knitted!!!! Now I just need to lay it out and sew it all together. Hopefully I'll have enough of them when I do. If I don't, I found a few extra skeins of yarn that I didn't remember I had. One blue, one green, and one brown which will all work perfectly and give me another row if I'm a bit short.

On another front, I've started a new pair of felted clogs for my sister. I was home for Thanksgiving and noticed that she wore through the first layer on the bottom of her slippers. I can't remember when I made them for her (I know I was in AK), so I guess two years out of a pair isn't too bad considering how much she wears them. I think I might try dipping them in silicon this time... then she can wear off the silicon instead of the felt.

WIP Wednesday

Instead of laying out the whole blanket again (because it takes forever), I decided to show you what I've accomplished since the last shot.

Sorry about the bathroom background, but it's really the only place in the house that gets any light. So, since last post, there are fifteen new fish. I know the upper left is facing the wrong way. The bright green one on the right side is the missing one from the last shot, but I didn't want him to feel left out. Near as I can figure, I need six more fish and then I can see about putting them together. I may actually have enough yarn! Many thanks to all those who swapped with me so I didn't have to buy all this yarn. This would have been way too cost prohibitive if I had to do that.

Start sending vibes that it isn't too hard to sew together. Seems I have to make another one when this one is all finished.

I've been tagged...

Seems I've been tagged. Thanks Katie. Shouldn't you be having a baby instead of torturing me? :P~

8 random things meme.
Rules are as follows:
· When tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you.
· Then post the rules before your list, and list eight random things about yourself.
· At the end of the post you must tag and link to eight other people.

1. I'm in graduate school studying to be a Pediatric Acute/Chronic Care Nurse Practitioner.

2. I have two cats that I adopted in Alaska and brought back to the east coast with me. In order to do this, I had to buy one of them a seat on the plane.

3. I'm a total night shift person. For the past seven years I've only worked evenings and nights. I'm going to die next semester when I have to be at rounds by 8am.

4. I've told friends I couldn't study on Sunday nights so I could be home to watch The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad.... then I found out you can watch them online.

5. My hair is really down past my waist, but no one ever gets to see it down.

6. I love winter, the more snow, the better. Hence I'm going to Alaska this January to visit my friends and get in some good snow time.

7. I wear my watch on my right wrist, and upside down. Because of this many people assume I'm left handed. (I'm not)

8. I haven't owned a real bed in over two years. I've been sleeping on an aero bed.

I have no idea who to tag, but I'll tag Yvonne since it seems she hasn't done this one yet...

Had to share this

Not sure if I'm breaking any copy right laws here, but I had to share this.

From Philadelphia Weekly:

Isn't he cute?????

WIP Wednesday...

will have to wait this week. I only got three more fish done since my last picture and at the moment there is so much fog in Philly that the visibility is only 1/4 mile.

So I leave you with cute kitty

Apparently my bathroom sink is the new cat bed. Silly me, I actually made them a kitty pi.

Finished!

The socks I was knitting at Rhinebeck, then frogging, then knitting, then frogging, then gave up on toe up and went to cuff down knitting are finally done! No pictures though, they're my sister's Hanukkah gift, and she sometimes reads this. I will put pics up on Ravelry when there is daylight tomorrow.

Blanket Update

There are now 55 fish (though only 54 in the picture). I've managed to go through all the yarn I currently have in my stash and I'm now waiting for a few swaps to get here for more fish yarn.

Now here's my dilemma. As laid out here, the blanket is about 52 inches wide and 56 inches long (if I had that missing fish in there). If I make it only four fish wide, it's about 42 inches wide and 66 inches long.

This is a gift, that needs to fit a twin sized bed. Well... it doesn't need to really fit the bed, but needs to fit the man on the bed at least. Do I make it five fish wide, or is four okay? Or should I be going for six? It's spread out over a queen sized aerobed, so I think five is wide enough, but I'm not sure if I can cut it down to four and have a better chance of finishing it.

Ideas?

Forgot about the clocks...

No WIP Wednesday for me... it's too dark by the time I get home now to take pictures. But my class tomorrow isn't until late afternoon, so I should be able to do it then.

I'll leave you with this: I found her here this morning, she was still there when got home at noon to change my shoes, and there again when I got home this evening

Bit of a delay

I've gotten some work done on the fish blanket this past weekend, so I'll try to get pics of it when I get home from class late this afternoon. Sorry, can't show the other project. I was so secretive about my sister's socks, I made her close her eyes to try on the first one for fit.

Yikes.. it's Sat night...

I realize I missed YPF this week. Sorry about that. I finally got my first round of exams over and done with and handed in a paper on Thursday so Friday morning I decided to get ahead a bit. Of course, I'm not really getting ahead on my work, I'm just doing all the extra work they can't fit into the semester so they make it self paced with a take home test.

For those who are curious, I'm doing well so far. I learned the novel concept of curving an exam this week and how it can land someone with a grade above 100%. (Still seems odd to me).

I find out my clinical placement for spring and summer one this coming week. I think... we have a meeting on Tuesday and I'm assuming that's on the agenda, since the other two specialties already got their placements. Almost all the placements are at CHOP, so I guess it doesn't really matter where I end up. I'm also hoping they tell us if we need to be back early or what we need to do before spring clinical because I have plane tickets for Alaska over break.

I'm currently pondering about the heat in my apartment. I have steam radiators, that seem to go from so hot you can't get near them to totally cold. Seems like someone turns the heat on and off on a whim. Good thing I have lots of warm knitted clothes! I'm currently wearing a pair of socks I made out of Lamb's Pride Bulky to keep my feet warm. Of course, they don't match.. I made them out of leftovers from hats that I gave to the staff at Halo Bay. I had originally wanted to make them for the cook there, he was VERY nice to us, but I ran out of yarn, so they're mine.

Okay... back to eyes and ears. Anyone want to be my practice dummy?

ETA: pair of sock? Jeeze... doesn't anyone proof read this thing (grin)
