All worked out in the end....

I am now a RN in the state of Ohio.

phew.. that was close.

Not going back to Jersey

Most of the people who I've been updating via email read this blog... so I decided to update you here instead of sending out a ton of emails.

I talked to my recruiter today and she is going to try and work it out so that if my license comes through Monday or Tuesday I can start nursing orientation and then go back and do HR orientation.

If that doesn't work...  I'll start in two weeks (if my license doesn't come through by then, I'll probably go postal) but won't do nursing orientation till April.  I'll still be able to orient on the floor without going to the nursing orientation.

I can't tell you how happy I am not to have to drive back to Jersey.  The cats were okay in the car, but I wouldn't want to do that again anytime soon.

Now... I just need to figure out all this paperwork.  How do you fill in a home address when you're living in a hotel?

Thickest.. socks.. ever

One of the nice things about knitting for Warm Woolies is that they want everything made out of bulky wool.  This means, that instead of 80 stitches and size 1 needles, I used 32, 36 and 40 stitches and size 8 needles.  I really should go up to size 9's so I'm not putting so much wear and tear on my hands, but so far they haven't complained.  I finished these three (and a fourth pair not shown) in the past two weeks.
The pink ones are big enough to fit my size 10 feet.

All socks made out of Lamb's Pride Bulky.  At one point, I had bought a grab bag worth of it from an online store and so I ended up with a bunch of odd balls.  Though I seem to have more odd balls than I can account for using that grab bag, so I must have picked up the others along the way.

So far, I've used up six skeins from the stash.

Pending...

That word is my new best friend.

My license in Ohio is now officially "pending". I might actually get my license before I need to start work.

(insert happy dance here)

On the knitting front... I'll try to take a few pics today. I've been on a warm woolies kick and have made three pairs of heavy duty socks in the past week or so. There's nothing like charity knitting to get you out of a funk (and use up some stash).

Alice goes to Ohio

I've been a bit quiet lately, because I wanted to wait for the official offer before I posted this.. but enough steps have been taken in the right direction that I figured.. why not?

I am shortly (very shortly, which is another issue) moving to Cincinnati, Ohio to take a position at Cincinnati Children's. I'll be a (so far, the only) NP working with the Intestinal Failure Service. I do, however, get to share an office with the other inpatient GI NP who (from our short meetings) is just my type and I think we'll get along wonderfully.

Am I excited? Oh yes... this is a new position that will allow me to grow and help shape my responsibilities. It's a new city to explore and I can't wait to get to the zoo and the old train station turned museums.

Am I worried? Very... I'd like to start on March 2nd (the next orientation). If I don't start then, the next opportunity isn't until the middle of April. In order to do this, I need my Ohio RN. I applied, sent everything in, know my transcripts were sent... yet I'm still not in the system. I check every day at 6pm to see if I'm there. Worse... I had to reinstall firefox on my laptop because their verification system doesn't work with Safari.

Am I freaking out? Slightly... I've decided to find a temporary apartment/long term stay hotel to move into instead of trying to find a place and move in with what I can fit in my car.

sorry... just talking to a guy from the corporate housing company. Hrm.. this is not going to be cheap.
