Much faster

Start to finish, one day. Even if it was one day of doing almost nothing else, weaving is still faster than knitting.

Lessons learned:
1. Weft faced fabric does not pull in as much as I'd thought. So don't warp extra to make up for draw in.

2. Woven scarves out of worsted or bulky yarn need to be 5 inches wide, not 6-7

3. This is way too much fun

I don't think it will take away from my knitting time, but I'm afraid for my spinning time. So, for now, the new rule is the loom can only be warped on Sundays and if I finish the same day, I'll just have to spin for the rest of the week.

Now, on to the finished project.

Stats:
Woven on Beka 20 inch Rigid Heddle @ 5epi using a 10 dent heddle with 36 ends
Warp: Patons Classic Wool in black
Weft: I lost the tag, but it was a handspun bulky weight wool 250gm gifted to me in a swap
Final dimensions: 51 inches long by 7 inches wide.

Finish one, start another

All done!

So not my colors, but even with the hot pink I'm in love. I see many more of these in my future. This one will be flying off to grandma's house to join the knit ones I sent her a few months ago.

So, once that was all done.. on to project two. It took a LOT less time to warp the loom this go around but that might have something to do with the fact that this project had about 1/3 of the ends of the last one.

My first weft faced fabric. I'm loving how it's coming out.

I'm going to go till I run out of yarn. I warped for a six foot scarf, we'll see how far I get.

Quicker than knitting??

I finished my first weaving project. It's a simple dish towel made of worsted weight cotton. I'll take pictures tomorrow when the sun is out.

It was a lot of fun and seemed to be MUCH quicker than knitting would have been. But as I was talking to my mom about it, I got to wondering. Is it really faster to weave then it is to knit? It took me a week of crafting time from start to finish to weave the dish cloth. That's roughly the same amount of time it probably would have taken me to knit one (I've never actually knit a dish towel this long before).

Tomorrow, I'm going to start my next weaving project with some yarn that was sent to me in a swap. I'm going to actually keep track of the time it takes to see if weaving is quicker for me.

I'm going to use this one for the weft, it's large and bulky, so I'm going to warp my loom @ 5epi instead of 10. I want it to show through.

This one came with it and I'm thinking of using it for the warp. The other option is a skein of Cascade 220 in either black, blue or purple.

Almost done..

Here's my new toy with the weaving completed. I just need to figure out how to take it off the loom and finish it.

A closer view..

And even closer.

For my first piece, I'm happy with it. The edges are a bit rough but I think that will come with practice. I can't wait to toss it in the wash and see how it turns out.
