DPs or Magic Loop

I find myself in a bit of a pickle at the moment.  The 40" Addi needles that I use to magic loop my socks have these very annoying kinks in them that makes them not so much fun to use.  I figured I'd switch to the other set of needles, but they also have kinks in the cord.  On Tuesday evening, I had to cast on a new pair of socks for the Wednesday class marathon.  Since the Addis weren't behaving, I pulled out the Harmony double point set mom got me, and used those instead.

So here's my pickle.  I finished the first sock in 3 days of knitting.  Now, this sock has fewer stitches than the last pair, but still, I've never finished a sock in 3 days before.  Does this mean I knit faster on double points, or is it just that Gigi wrote such a fun and wonderful pattern that it went quicker?  (I did modify it a bit, but not much)

See, if I knit quicker on double points, then does it pay to replace the annoying Addi needles with nice new ones from Knit Picks?

This was Wednesday night... sorry about the blur, but my camera is seriously dead now.  Not only is the view screen on the back messed up, but the eye piece is all blurry too.

Three weeks...

That's how long it took me to weave in the ends on these.  I started them when I was up in AK, because my current flip top mittens made of Noro were scratching my hand (I couldn't find a single piece of VM though).  So in Fairbanks, I bought two skeins of Pastanza to make these.  This is all Turtlegirl's fault.  She sent me a few skeins of Pastanza to make a Lucy bag and got me addicted to it.  The snow and cold weather today finally forced me to weave in the ends.

I also finished a pair of socks... these took me about three weeks worth of Wednesday classes (10 hours worth each day... Wednesdays suck..)

As warm and soft as they are, I probably won't use this yarn again.  I don't know if it was the alpaca or the nylon, but something hurt my finger where I wind the yarn to tension it.

He surprised me..

Well, first I surprised him. I drove up to Allentown today to find a replacement for the knife I lost. Seems I didn't mention to my friend G that I would be there. He seemed nicely surprised. I stopped back at his house to check and see if it was the weekend for Sat night knitting group up there (which it wasn't), and he surprised me with this:

Opens up to hold your needles.  Actually came with a few sets of metal double points.  

Apparently, he got this at an auction.  There are no identifying marks on it anywhere except for the writing and the flowers.  One of the double points inside says "HERO 4 US"

So, anyone have any ideas?  Where it came from, when it came from?

Oh how I laughed..

I won Bezzie's monthly K.A.Y.E. drawing for January.  Just winning made me smile.  First, it was a &*^%$#@ week.. then it was a yarn I really needed.  I even sent Bezzie an email asking if she was kidding with me.  Now it comes in the mail today, and well... if you are a member of my family, you know why I smiled.

For anyone who happens to be curious... 

This is currently about 1/3 of where I'm spending my life (the other 2/3's being school and bed)

Note the messenger bag that is hiding the large pile of books and papers behind it, not to mention the windowsill that hasn't seen the light of day in months.

I have given up on having anything even resembling a real life till school is over.  I'm going to go obsess over my write ups now.
