How smart is a bird?

I find myself wondering how smart your average back yard Cardinal is....

For the past few nights, right at dusk, a male cardinal has come to sit on my deck railing.  Where he proceeds to chirp... and chirp... and chirp.  Eventually, I give in and go lay some seed down on the deck railing.  As I step outside, he flies up to the tree and then comes back when I step inside.

He doesn't eat the seed... he may pick at one or two but then he goes right back to chirping.

I think this bird likes torturing my cats.

I love the zoo...

I love going to zoos... I really love when the zoo comes to me...

Look who I found waiting for me today.  All the way from St. Louis.

He came with some friends.. though I think the giraffe looks more like a pencil.

He did bring some alpaca with him... I should have realized the included needles were for rounding up the alpaca, but I'll admit, it took me a bit to figure that out.

Alpaca with a twist sock yarn... a blend of alpaca, wool, bamboo and nylon... OMG... I think I'm in love.

What do you make with this wonderful yarn???? I need the perfect sock pattern for it.

Anyone have any idea what the blue yarn is?  It needs one small repair.  Not that I have anyone who can fit in it, but I can't imagine letting this much work go to waste.  If anyone wants it and will repair it, I'll ship it.
